1.) Cut the caulking where the trim meets the jam and drywall with a utility knife.
2.) Remove the door molding by setting the trim nails and using a wonder bar to remove the trim
from the wall and door jam. Be careful not to pry on the drywall as it will be damaged.
3.) Remove the exterior door trim .
4.) Remove the alarm bullet located at the top of the door jam by removing the wire connections
and use a knife to remove it from the door jam. Remove the magnet in the top of the door.
5.) Remove the door from the jam and remove all the nail from the jam into the framing.
Now the jam is ready to be removed.
6.) Remove all the caulking from under the threshold and remove the threshold if there is a separate
threshold from the jam.
7.) Put several beads of sealant across the threshold area prior to installing the new door jam.
8.) Install the exterior door trim on the new door jam unit prior to installing the door.
9.) Plumb the hinge side of the door jam and secure with 16 penny nails or 3 1/2" screws to the framing.
Use wood shims to block the door jam at the hinges and the keeper side for the door handle.
10.) Level the top of the door jam and secure with your preference.
11.) Bing the remaining jam to a equal margins around the door to the jam area's, usually 1/8".
Shim threshold if needed in cases of a un-level slab or floor.
12.) Re-install your alarm pieces.
13.) Foam seal the opening around the door to the framing.
14.) Install the interior door trim and hardware.
15.) Re- caulk and paint.
